2009 WBFN Mr. BASS Tournament
Lake Puckaway
April 25-26, 2009

The two day Mr. Bass tournament was one of rain, wind, and then more of the same. While the sun made a brief appearance Friday afternoon, Saturday and Sunday was rainy and windy.

Even with the less than ideal weather conditions, 18 hearty Mr. Bass tournament anglers and 18 observers donned rain gear and hit the water. While the weather was not the greatest, the greatest anglers of the WBFN seemed to know what to do to make the fish bite, and bite, and bite in the low 50 degree water temps. During the event Lake Puckaway produced two 5#ers with tales of bigger ones that got away.

In the end, Jason Stangel had the lead at the end of the first day with 17.75# and never looked back coming in with an over 18# bag on Sunday for 36.49# total to capture the 2009 Mr. Bass title. Jerry Schumacher came from 3rd at the end of the first day with a nice 2nd day bag but came in 2nd, with Kevin Fassbind 3rd.

The observer side proved to be very interesting with .29# difference between the top 4 observers (non-boaters) following day 1 (9.03 – 8.74). The bite changes for many on day 2 but in the end it sorted out to have Tom Ehrenberg coming out on top (2nd year in a row), with Steve Williamson coming up from 5th to take the 2nd spot, and Cliff Pickart dropping from 2nd into 3rd.

The WBFN board would like to congratulate all the club Mr. Basses that competed and Jason for his #1 finish. We would also like to thank all the hearty observers that braved the weather to make the event possible. We would also like to thank all those that volunteered their time to help at the event and Bill Parbs for stepping into the tournament director role in Terry Hilbert's absence.
We would like to  thank Shane McQuitty for stepping up and very handily operating the computerized scale system at the last minite. Even with minimal training he operated the system with confidence and flawlessly. Thank you very much Shane!!! I think all had a very enjoyable time.
