Tournament Results
The 2007 WBFN Mr BASS Tournament was held on Red Cedar Lake near Rice Lake, WI on Mothers Day weekend, May 13. Saturday was a beautiful warm day with little or no wind. Sunday, Tournament day, was a little different with winds, overcast, rain and thunder and lightning. I had thoughts of delaying the tournament because of lightning, but just before we were to start the thunder and lightning passed. What can I say; it was typical weekend tournament weather.
Congratulations to Torry Rhoades from River Road Bassmasters, as the new 2007 WBFN MR BASS King! Torry not only won the tournament in fine fashion, he also landed big bass for the tournament. Torry caught 5 smallmouth for a weight of 16.92 lbs., and big bass at 4.77 lbs. Torry celebrated Mothers Day by handing his wife Amy a cool $850, $750 for the tournament and $100 for big bass. I spoke to Torry about how he caught his fish and he said he had about five spots that he rotated on all day, using a Carolina rig and jerk bait for his staging smallies.
Nick Schroeder, Oshkosh Bassmasters, did a fine job and caught 5 bass for 13.34 pounds, placing him in 2nd place. Nick was awarded $350 for his efforts.
Rick Lindus, Indianhead Bassmasters, had a catch of 5 good fish also, weighing 12.97 pounds and received a check for $200. Rick also had a 3.66 smallmouth for his big fish.
Next were the infamous Miller brothers, Josh and Jake, two local favorites, securing the last two money spots in the tournament. Josh, Flaumbeau Bassmasters, landed his 5 bass, weighing in at 12.41 pounds. Jake Miller, St Croix Bassmasters, caught his 5 fish weighing 12.01 pounds. Both Josh and Jake took home a check for $100/each.
The non boater side with Rob Witchell placing first with 10.11 pounds and 3 fish (non-boater limit) toped the field from the back of the boat. Rob not only bested the co-angler side, he also caught big bass at 3.91 pounds. Rob had all smallies and took home a check for $175, $125 for the tournament and $50 for his big bass. Mike Prince placed 2nd on the co-angler side with 8.32 pounds and took home a check for $75.
The weather turned out very nice for the 1st annual WBFN Mr BASS tournament on Mothers Day and it was big success. I must give thanks to everyone that helped in the tournament to spend time away from their families to help the WBFN. First let me give a very special “Thank You” to the gentile giant of the north, Stan Miller, from Flaumbeau Bassmasters. Stan our weigh master, provided the Flaumbeau bassmasters tournament scale, tent, bump tank, and weighed all the fish and ran the show. Pete Mauel from River Road Bassmasters, was on vacation visiting friends at a nearby lake, volunteered his efforts to bump fish. As always, Jeff Dyer, WBFN Secretary/Treasurer, drove over 14 hours round trip, to help. Jeff is always there and I don’t know what I’d do without him. Last but not least I’d like to thank my wife Kathy, and Marian DiMarco (Jeff’s fiancé) as they ran the numbers and the computer.
Thank you to all the Mothers, fishermen and their families on the fine Mothers Day that it was for our tournament. The Tag A Long Resort is a beautiful facility and the WBFN couldn’t have asked for a more assume place to hold a tournament.
Yours Truly in fishing,
David Snyder
