My wife and I spent a great week on "The Chip". While we ventured to the east side a couple of days, the bog has again positioned on the west side of the bridge on CC. The winds were strong SW and Westerly for the week and I was concerned on getting stuck on the east side when our camp was on the west side.
We did great on largemouth and managed to even find some west side smallmouth. While we caught nothing huge, we did catch a number of 3 pounders with a fair number in the 2-3# range. Most of the bass were weed relating in 4-6 feet of water. The only exception were the clear waters of Crane Lake where they were deeper on the outside weed edges.
We ended up making some spinnerbaits based on early fishing that worked dynamite for the rest of the trip. Senkos also worked well but we got a lot of nothern cutoffs. As always, we had to work thru the northerns and an occasional musky but we didn't lose many baits.
We will be heading back in early September for Labor Day and another good time.
