Casting Kids 2007

On June 2, 2007 Gander Mountain in Onalaska was host to the River Road Bassmasters annual Casting Kids contest. The weather called for rain, but held out for a partly sunny, albeit windy day.  Unfortunately, we had a fairly small turnout compared to years past due to the call for rain. For those present, Gander Mountain donated a rod and reel combo for a grand prize drawing, and all participants received $10 off coupons for store purchases.

We held two sessions of competition and qualified four contestants for the state casting kid’s competition.  Santiago Lopez (age 7) and Cole Bina (age 8) will represent us in the 7 to 10 year age group, while Austin Seidel (age 12) and Broc Bina (age 11) will compete in the 11 to 14 year age group in Delafield, WI on July 28, 2007.  The lucky winner of the rod and reel combo was none other than our first sessions 7 to 10 year group champion Santiago Lopez.  With this new outfit we’re sure Santiago will hone his skills and be a force in next year’s competition.

First and foremost, we would like to give a special thanks to Jay and Jesse and the rest of the staff at Gander Mountain for making our event a success.  Without them this event would not have been possible.  Secondly, we would like to thank all the members of the River Road Junior Bassmasters for setting up and tearing-down, but also teaching the kids the art of flipping, pitching, and casting.  Last, but not least, we would like to thank all the kids who came out to compete and their families for allowing them to spend their late morning or early afternoon with us.
