Youth Message
Currently the Wisconsin BASS Federation Nation has about 50 youth competing throughout Wisconsin in the youth program. My goal is to double this number while I am the Youth Director. The youth program is geared for the young adult to learn from one another and also the adults in the Bass Federation Nation. An adult club sponsors each youth club and they provide boats for the tournaments and instruction. Fishing tournaments with the opportunity to win prizes is a big part of the youth clubs, but education through conservation projects is also included. These projects can include cleaning boat ramps, helping at seminars to teach younger kids to fish, or just public awareness toward fishing.
Tournament Fishing
Each youth club is required to fish at least four tournaments throughout the year. Based on points, the top six qualifiers in each club are invited to fish the Wisconsin Bass Federation Nation Youth State Tournament. Awards are awarded to all the participants and the top two youth from each age division get to go on to the Junior World Classic, which is held around the same time as the Bassmasters Classic. The youth are paired with professional fisherman and compete against other youth from around the country. The winner wins a boat and other prizes are available to the participants.
The clubs need a minimum of six participants and elect their own officers. It is their club with help of the adults. They run their own meetings and make all decisions regarding waters fished and conservation projects.
Casting Kids
Youth compete against each other in a casting contest. They have the opportunity to win a medal and a fishing rod and reel at local events and qualify for the State Casting Kids Competition. The top winners from the State competition get to go to the finals with the opportunity to win scholarships and prizes.
There are three targets, which include skills for pitching, flipping, and casting. Points are awarded based on how well these skills are displayed.
